Below please find their RESUMÉ and CVs (in bold italics):
A brief career summary ("He" and "She"):
He commenced his hotel career at the Formosa Inn, Plettenberg Bay in 1979 where he underwent an intensive initial training program and was subsequently appointed as General Manager. His daily management tasks of running all divisions of the hotel included management of the F&B operation, housekeeping, grounds and rooms maintenance, reception, banking and the nightclub.
He was offered a position with SAB (then Ohlssons Cape Breweries) as Assistant GM of the Foresters Arms pub in Cape Town in 1981. Together with the GM they shared the responsibility of all operations of the very busy pub and restaurant.
In 1982 He was offered the opportunity of returning to Plett to open a new restaurant, and they proceeded to procure a site, and assemble the entire operation from cutlery and crockery, kitchen equipment, furniture and décor and staffing. After running the restaurant for a year, He returned to his position at the Formosa Inn.
At this stage his new wife joined the business and worked as cocktail barmaid and maîtres’d in the restaurant, and was subsequently promoted to head receptionist. She also assisted with most of the daily management functions such as overseeing housekeeping, cashing up and banking and general administration.
In 1986 He & She decided to head off to Johannesburg to seek alternate careers as they wished to start a family and didn’t want to bring up children in the hotel environment. They both ended up working for Liberty Life, where they spent many successful years – She in numerous head office administration divisions, and He as a successful broker consultant, earning the prestigious title of Liberty’s Marketer of the Year in 1995.
After many years in the Life Insurance industry (He having worked as the South African GM of a British Investment company for 4 years), they decided to head for Cape Town to settle into the real estate industry. He was recruited as GM of the Pam Golding Commercial division where he ran the show for 6 years but was retrenched in 2009 when the property market hit the skids. He subsequently started on his own and in 2012 purchased a franchise of RealNet Properties where they are today.
Realnet Premier is an independently owned and operated franchise and as MD, He is responsible for inter-alia, recruitment and management of admin staff and agents, monthly financial management and budgets, as well as all aspects of marketing.
She joined her husband in 2014 and has been very successful operating as a commercial property leasing consultant and has earned RealNet’s Top Commercial Letting Agent award for the last three years in succession.
Character traits
He & She have always been passionate about excellence in customer service and honesty and ethics form the cornerstone of their operation. They both possess charismatic qualities that make them both well liked and well respected.
They are both outgoing individuals and are very fit and “young” 60-year old’s with a zest for life and infectious enthusiasm. In addition, they both possess excellent interpersonal people skills and can converse at all levels.
He is a very practical person who understands all things mechanical and has also completed numerous small building projects successfully. She has excellent administrative and organizational skills and can multi-task with agility.
They are both very computer literate and have worked extensively with the full Microsoft suite as well as PDF, and website design and management.
His extra-curricular achievements include holding a microlight pilot’s licence, a Cat C offshore powerboat licence, riding the Roof of Africa Rally and PADI scuba diving. Her culinary skills are superb and she is able to “cook up a storm” in the kitchen. They both love the outdoors as well as socializing around the braai.
The Lodge yearning
For many years now, He & She have expressed the desire to return to the hospitality industry. He has been involved in the marketing and sale of lodges, camps and farms in Botswana for a while now and this alone has heightened their lust to find a small lodge to manage.
Whilst they don’t possess hotel or hospitality degrees or diplomas, they are both “street-wise” and able to tackle any opportunity using excellent overall general knowledge, coupled with a thorough understanding of what it takes to achieve success. They would ensure that visiting guests would thoroughly enjoy the hospitality of the establishment, and not only desire to return, but would definitely spread the word!
