History of the Inn

While the Main House at this historic Stockbridge property wasn’t built until 1906, the history of the land upon which the Inn rests dates back to 1739, when one of Stockbridge’s original settler families, the Williams, came to the area with the hope of converting the Stockbridge Indians to Christianity. In 1906, Boston attorney Phillip Blagdon built the Main House in Georgian-style fashion for use as a summer cottage – though in today’s terms, "mansion" is more appropriate. The Blagdon family held the property until 1972, when it was sold a number of times before coming under the ownership of the current Owners.

Since officially becoming our Boutique Hotel, the property has seen significant improvement to the Main House, as well as significant additions to its surrounding grounds. During their time here, the owners decided to duplicate the architecture of the Main House, building the Cottage House in 1997 with four spacious Cottage Suites inside. In 2001, the barn was added to the estate with four additional luxury barn suites, all including private deck, king-size bed, double whirlpool and other wonderful amenities.

Main House

Traditional Massachusetts Bed and Breakfast Guest Rooms.

Built in 1906, the Main House at our Massachusetts Bed and Breakfast has retained its historic charm but has been expanded to include modern amenities. Each room contains antiques from the original mansion and has its own decorative theme. The Main House features a library with a cozy fireplace and comfortable seating, curl up with a good book by the fire or enjoy the view of our grounds from the wraparound porch while sipping your morning coffee – it’s so peaceful here you won’t want to leave this charming Massachusetts Bed and Breakfast Inn. 

Our Main House Rooms feature: 

King or Queen beds, WIFI, TV/DVDs, air conditioning, bathrobes, and private baths, some with soaking or Whirlpool tubs. We serve a complimentary home-cooked breakfast every morning in the dining room where guests can savour locally-sourced food and freshly ground and brewed coffee. Guests are also invited to a wine and cheese Happy House, held daily in the downstairs living room each evening.

Blagdon

Newly renovated & redecorated! Formerly the mansion’s master bedroom, the Blagdon Suite is located on the second floor and has an excellent view of the property and natural lighting thanks to the four large windows. This bright and spacious room is decorated in calming blues and features a king bed, gas fireplace, sitting area, refrigerator, and private bath with a shower stall. 331 sq. ft. of gracious living.

Wake up each morning to the smell of home-cooked breakfast and mingle with other guests at the evening wine and cheese reception downstairs in the living room.

Madame Butterfly

Surround yourself with Asian influences in this unique 2nd floor room overlooking the Inn’s expansive grounds and gardens. This room has light and bright paint, fresh carpet, and retains touches of its former “Madame Butterfly” decor. This room also has a spacious bathroom and a shower/tub combo. The king bed in this suite can also be configured into two twin beds upon request. The additional features of a gas fireplace, sitting area, and refrigerator complete the 331 sq. ft. of gracious living.

For an extra special stay, order chilled wine or beer and chocolate-covered strawberries to be waiting in your room when you arrive.

South Corner

Enjoy the recent makeover of South Corner and sink into its cloud-like bed. The recent makeover updated the room with a fresh, clean look, decorated in light blues and subtle floral wallpaper. The new bathroom features a walk-in shower and a large sink. This charming second floor 206 sq. ft. king room also overlooks the front lawn of the Inn.

When you stay in the Main House, you’ll enjoy close proximity to breakfast and happy hour, where we provide our guests with complimentary wine and cheese to enjoy while mingling with other guests of the inn.

Rose Room

Decorated with soft yellows and pinks, Rose Room has turn-of-the-century charm. With a brass king bed and tasteful decor, this room has the traditional bed and breakfast appeal that you expect. Lounge in the sitting area in front of the TV, or take a long shower in the en-suite bathroom featuring a rainfall showerhead. The Rose Room is 192 sq. ft. of relaxation.

Staying in the Main House allows you to be close to our daily breakfast, happy hour, and midday snacks and coffee.

North Corner

Feel fully relaxed and calm in this spacious 2nd floor room with king-sized. Originally home to the servant’s quarters, North Corner has been newly renovated and transformed into a luxurious private escape located at the end of the 2nd-floor hall overlooking the Inn's grounds. The large sitting area with flat-screen TV and DVD player along with the private bath with shower/tub combo complete this room’s charming 272 sq. ft.

Petite

The Petite room is just that, petite. Cozy and charming, it is a traditional B&B suite with a queen bed. This 2nd floor room may be small in size, but it is big in charm and coziness. It's decorated with rich floral tones, pink wallpaper and features a private bath with a shower stall. Please note the private bathroom is adjacent to the room, not en-suite. This room is an economical choice for guests looking for a traditional B&B experience.

Garden Room

This first-floor queen room is located right off of the library and has private access to the mansion’s back patio. Be steps away from your delicious home-cooked breakfast every morning! This room also has a private door to the wraparound porch where guests can relax and enjoy the view of the grounds. The spacious bathroom has a shower/tub combo which completes this 159 sq. ft. room.

Terrace Room

The Terrace Room is a very special room located on the first floor at the back of the Main House. With a private deck and sitting area overlooking the “enchanted grotto” and the heated outdoor pool, you will feel a world away in this peaceful room decorated in green and cream with natural accents of wicker and greenery. The king bed is situated directly in front of the flat-screen TV and this room’s recently renovated bath features a large soaking tub and separate shower.

Cottage House

Dog-Friendly Berkshires Lodging

The suites in the Cottage House offer plenty of space and privacy for those looking for a romantic getaway or dog-friendly Berkshires lodging. The Cottage house is conveniently located near the outdoor pool, perfect for a quick dip. Each room in the Cottage House has its own personality and provides a charming experience. Even dogs love staying in the Cottage House! The spacious rooms and quick easy access to the outdoors make us one of the best Pet-Friendly Berkshires Boutique Hotels around. 

Our Cottage House rooms feature: 

King beds, fireplaces, TV/DVD, refrigerators, Keurigs, and air conditioning and private baths, some with whirlpool tubs. Breakfast and Happy Hour is included for all our guests.

Out of Africa Suite

Spacious and airy, decorated with earth tones, the Out of Africa Suite provides a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Rest your head on the four-poster king-sized bed, or pass the day sitting in front of a cozy fire, swimming in the heated outdoor pool, or picnicking on the Inn’s beautiful grounds. The spacious bathroom includes a tub/shower combo and plenty of amenities to make your stay enjoyable. This suite is 344 sq ft of relaxation.

Dogs are welcome in the Out of Africa Suite. Please note when you book if you plan to bring a furry friend so the Innkeepers can be prepared with a special treat at check-in.

St. Andrew's Suite

Imagine nestling in this spacious king suite savoring the warmth of a gas controlled fireplace and the indulgence of a large whirlpool tub. Curl up in front of the fire, pop the champagne, and indulge yourself in warmth and luxury. Step outside to lounge by the heated pool, or order a bottle of champagne to enjoy in the sitting area. You’ll be napping the day away in no time! 284 square ft of indulgence.

Traveling with a four-legged pal? The Inn at Stockbridge is a pet-friendly bed and breakfast and your pup is welcome to stay with you in any of our Cottage House suites; we even provide special dog-only treats.

Kashmir Suite

Escape from the mundane in this luxurious, Indian-inspired suite that will transport you away from the stress of everyday life and into a state of relaxation. This suite features a king bed, a cozy sitting area with a small refrigerator, a fireplace in the sitting area, and a Whirlpool tub in the private bath. Take a long bath in the tub, enjoy the warmth of the fireplace, or stop by the Main House for our wine and cheese social each evening. 284 sq. ft of luxury await you in the Kashmir Suite.

Provence Suite

The bright decor, vaulted ceiling, large windows and easy access to the heated pool make this a favorite among our summertime guests. Decorated in soft shades of pink and white, this king room is spacious, light and airy, and features a king bed, a large bathroom with a tub and a shower stall, and a cozy sitting area with a small refrigerator. Spend a day relaxing by the outdoor heated pool and unwind in the evening by the gas fireplace. 294 sq ft of comfort await.

Guests looking for a Berkshires AirBnB are traditionally looking for a bit more space and privacy. Each of the four Barn Suites offers plenty of space as well as more amenities than a traditional Berkshires AirBnB – like a heated pool! Located towards the back of the property near the pool, you’ll feel refreshed knowing you can sit out on your private terrace, giving you that alone time you’ve been longing for. Our Barn Suites are named after famous artists and sites to celebrate the region’s rich history. The Barn also houses our fitness centre, so you’ll never be too far away from a good workout, or even a relaxing massage by our on-call masseuse.

Our 4 Barn Suites feature: 

King beds, gas fireplaces, cozy sitting areas, private balconies, TV/DVDs, a refrigerator, Keurig, air conditioning, and double whirlpool jacuzzi tubs so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the serenity of the Berkshires. And of course, breakfast and happy hour are included in all guest stays.

Rockwell Suite

If you’re looking for a place to stay near the Norman Rockwell Museum, why not choose a suite that is dedicated to him? The Rockwell Suite has plenty of space for the whole family. Shaker Suite

With simple and clean decor, this luxurious king suite is a guest favorite. Named as a tribute to the Hancock Shaker Village, which operates as a living-history museum dedicated to preserving the Shaker Community that flourished there in the later 18th century, the room features a 4-post bed, antique-style standing mirror, fireplace, and a loveseat that opens into a twin bed. We are immensely proud of our large garden where we grow flowers to decorate the inn and fresh fruits and vegetables to use in Lisa’s fantastic home-cooked breakfast menus. During the summer months, we use as many ingredients from our garden as possible, including tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of herbs. In addition to the garden, guests enjoy picnics on the vast lawns and lounging on our inviting porches. There’s also the garden grotto to explore – you may even see the occasional garden visitor. Even in Fall and Winter, the grounds are stunning to behold.

Inside you may choose to exchange vows in front of a roaring fire in the library or living room, or at the base of the stairs next to the grand piano.  The dining room serves as a lovely indoor reception area as well.
