Our boutique hotel and conference centre is an exclusive, owner-run establishment, uniquely situated at the top of ‘town-hill’ with a 180 degree view of the town of Knysna, the lagoon and the famous Knysna Heads.
A 5-minute brisk walk will get you to the town center where you will find the Knysna Mall as well as all major banks. Strolling further down Grey Street, quaint shops and coffee stops will keep you company until you reach the Waterfront where a range of activities will add to your Garden Route experience. The original property was called Fair Acres and was built in the early 1900’s. The Thesen Family (after whom the Thesen Island Estate is named) was next-door neighbours. During that period, the property belonged to an elegant English lady by the name of Tilbrook.
It changed hands after it was occupied by a Captain Weller who was Port Captain of the Durban harbour. Another English lady by the name of Diana Stanier lived there in about the 1940’s.
A couple named Wilkinson, were the next proud owners and they later sold the property to Allan Perrins, who lived there with his sister, Susan Backhouse.
A note on Allan Perrins may be of interest: he came from the very wealthy English Perrins family (Lee and Perrins Worcester sauce) and as a captain in the Welsh Guards had been Equerry to Edward, the Prince of Wales. (Subsequently the king Edward V111) approximately in the 1930’s.
With 17 uniquely decorated rooms, guests will be able to select the perfect suite for their needs. Swathed in history and splashed with flair and colour, each room has unique antique furniture depicting the Knysna (and South African) wood history.
Whether you want to relax away from the madding crowd with your nose in a book, or soaking up the sun while sipping a cocktail, you will find the perfect spot at our boutique hotel.
This is a 17-bedroom (all en-suite) Boutique Hotel centrally situated at the top of town-hill with a 180-degree view of the town of Knysna, the lagoon and the spectacular Knysna Heads. A 10-minute brisk walk will get you to the CBD from where one can take a leisurely stroll to the Waterfront with its array of restaurants and interesting shops.
Recently renovated, its grandeur takes you back to yester-year (the original building being a heritage site) but with all the 21st-century amenities. The 3 Elite Rooms still boast its original yellow-wood floors (which is said to more than 200 years old). The décor depicts the history of the Knysna Timber industry including beautiful antique pieces made in stinkwood, yellow-wood and blackwood – bringing the Knysna forest into each room.
All rooms are fitted with wifi, miniature fridges, flat screen smart televisions, air conditioners and full bathrooms (bath, shower, toilet and basin).
The on-site restaurant and licenced pub, with spectacular views, allow guests to lounge around the pool without any need to venture out for meals or drinks.
The conference centre offers the perfect environment for meetings, launches and presentations. With its own kitchen and restroom facilities, it functions independently from the hotel. This venue is currently utilised as a Treatment/Beauty Centre.
Being the gem of the Garden Route, Knysna is the perfect base from where to explore the surrounding areas, with access to 9 excellent golf courses, hiking trails, cycling opportunities, activities for adrenaline junkies and the best of nature's offerings.
