Things to See and Do in Cornwall
Our Hotel is set in the village of Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall and just a short distance from the South West Coast Path. The Roseland Peninsula and South West Coast Path offer some of the best walking in Cornwall – if you are passing by en route along the Coast Path, then why not stop in for a quick drink or a bite to eat.
If you are staying with us in Gorran Haven, then here are some ideas for circular walks from the village:
House & Gardens
Galleries, Sculpture & Glass
Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden – St Ives
The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden features works in bronze, stone and wood in addition to paintings, drawings and other archive material.
Tate – St Ives
The Tate Gallery in St Ives opened in June 1993 in a purpose-built building with five galleries offering an introduction to modern art.
Newlyn Gallery – Newlyn, Penzance
A fully refurbished art gallery showing contemporary national, international and local work
Malcolm Sutcliffe Glass Gallery & Studio – Penryn, Falmouth
A wide variety of distinctive glass made on site. Try your hand at glassblowing or come and watch the glassblowing at one of their open days.
For car-free days out, why not consider a journey by train on one of Cornwall’s five wonderfully scenic branch lines:
World of Model Railways – Mevagissey
The World of Model Railways has a main layout with over 30 trains travelling through varied landscapes and is home to a well-stocked model shop.
The Minack Theatre – Porthcurno, Penzance
A stunning location from which to view wild waves or a raging storm, with live performances in the theatre over the summer months.
Hall For Cornwall – Truro
Hall for Cornwall is a thriving theatre in the heart of Truro. Over the course of the year we welcome over 180,000 theatre goers to everything from classical to rock concerts, and pantomime to touring productions from the West End.
The Shipwreck and Heritage Centre – Charlestown, St Austell
Said to be the largest private collection of shipwreck and historical artefacts on public display in Europe, it includes many items from a bygone age including finds from more than 150 shipwrecks.
Pendennis Castle – Falmouth
Built by Henry VIII to help defend England against possible attack by France and Spain. Enjoy the interactive exhibition and end your day with a Cornish Cream Tea in the Castle’s tea-rooms.
St Mawes Castle – St Mawes
Like its counterpart, Pendennis Castle it was built by Henry VIII on the opposite bank.
Truro Cathedral – Truro
A stunning three spired Gothic Revival Cathedral in the heart of Truro city. Open every day, entrance is free.
St Just in Roseland Church – St Just in Roseland near St Mawes
A 13th Century church surrounded by sub-tropical gardens.
Nestling amongst rich, magnificent coastal scenery, the cleanest beaches and scented sub-tropical gardens. There are cobbled streets full of history, legend and tradition that wind between pretty fisherman’s cottages. A magnitude of galleries and craft shops also grace the streets of St Ives.
Traditionally a fishing port, Padstow is now a popular tourist destination. Although some of its former fishing fleet remains, it is mainly a yachting haven on a dramatic coastline.
A traditional Cornish fishing village where you can wander the narrow alleyways and browse gift shops.
Fowey is situated near the mouth of the River Fowey. It lies between Mevagissey and Looe. Its neighbouring town Polruan is situated across the estuary.
Here you’ll find a romantic retreat where you can relax, unwind and enjoy the very best that Cornwall has to offer. With our spacious rooms, stylish decor, bespoke furnishings and stunning sea views.
You can sail, surf, walk the beautiful South West Coast Path, explore the local beaches or simply stay in and soak up the splendour of the hotel. Gateway to the Roseland Peninsula
What makes this hotel really shine is its location. Step outside the Hotel and you are in the heart of the distinctly Cornish village of Gorran Haven, with ‘breathe in’ narrow lanes, whitewashed Cornish cottages, a small fishing harbour and two sandy beaches. With the sun warming your skin and the wind in your hair, you would not want to be anywhere else in the world. This hotel makes a great base for exploring the picturesque Roseland Peninsula.
Relax in your personal oasis
Each of the 18 individually designed hotel rooms at our Hotel has been created as exclusive spaces for your comfort and pleasure. Here you can expect comfy beds, crisp white sheets, fluffy towels and robes to help you relax and soak up the splendour of the lavish interiors.
Our spacious rooms all have luxury en-suite bathrooms and some have sea views. We have a number of rooms with balconies and some of the larger rooms have seating areas.
Our dual-aspect suite with a large walk-in shower and separate bath is ideal for special occasions. We also have a family suite with two interconnecting rooms with separate bathrooms.
Each room has a widescreen TV and Wi-Fi access.
What’s in Season
We see some amazing local produce come through the doors every month here at our Hotel, Cornish strawberries, local asparagus, scallops from Mevagissey, and freshly landed hake from Looe to name but a few. We endeavour to use the very best that Cornwall has to offer in our menus in order to support the local industry and give our guests a real taste of Cornwall.
Experience quality food and drink at our modern Cornish Bistro
Pop in for a pint after work, get together with friends or take the family out for a delicious meal… everyone is welcome at this very special bistro. This much loved Cornish local now sports a clean, smart, modern interior and provides a comfortable and relaxed place for you to chill out and catch up with friends and acquaintances.
Bistro at the heart of the community
The Gwineas is named after the rocks which jut out of the sea just offshore from the beach. And like that rocky outcrop, Gorran Haven’s only bistro aims to become a cherished part of village life.
It has a special history as it’s located on the site of an old inn where villagers have met for hundreds of years. This attractive, modern bistro is rightly proud of its roots and promises to serve as a social hub for the community for generations to come.
A special place to eat and drink
Whatever your tipple we have something here for you at The Gwineas. We have Cornish ales on tap, premium lagers, fine wines and cocktails. Plus we have fantastic food at affordable prices. We’re sure you’ll agree that The Gwineas makes a great place to stop for lunch, light bites or an evening meal.
If you follow sport you can watch the latest action on our large TV screens, and our child-friendly atmosphere means your children are always welcome.
Work up an appetite to enjoy a delicious Sunday lunch with us by taking a walk around the pretty harbour or along the coastal path.
