7 Church Street Guest House offers luxury 4 star accommodation set in beautiful landscaped gardens in the heart of Montagu on the popular Cape Route 62 between Cape Town and the Garden Route / Port Elizabeth.
This lovingly restored Victorian home dates back to the 1850’s and is typical of Montagu and Little Karoo architecture. The original homestead which fronts the road is home to our reception, dining rooms and kitchen and opens to landscaped rose-filled gardens. Guest suites are set amongst the gardens with magnificent views of surrounding mountains and abundant birdlife.
7 Church Street is in the centre of Montagu, set just off the main street, and is tranquil, quiet and relaxing ~ a welcome retreat to just enjoy and a perfect base for exploring the treasures of our area for 3 or 4 enchanting & memorable days.
You will find us a mere hop, skip and a jump from Cape Town - which makes us an excellent weekend destination at only 200kms distant. Or mosey along on a lazy weekend drive to visit one of our fine restaurants, view our historic sites, or take a wander around our bustling Village Market on a Saturday morning.
A stroll through the village will introduce you to its fascinating architecture and historic buildings. You can enjoy some of the best-preserved homes from the ox-wagon days just along Long street - in fact we have the most national monuments in one street than any other town in the country. We have an interesting heritage - once upon a time, we even had our own currency! Discover this in our fine museums in Long Street.
Wine is one of our best-kept secrets - you will find over 45 different wine cellars offering some of the finest wines money can buy. We pride ourselves on being unpretentious - so, you'll actually find us encouraging you to enjoy your tasting and not spit out the fruits of our labours.... You could even go on the new and fast growing Route 62 Wine Tours, so no need to drive after the winetasting! There are also really picturesque river boat cruises on the Breede River such as The River Goose and Viljoensdrift and more than one tractor trip to take you up into the mountains for the most scenic views and best experience of your life!
There are many scenic walks, nature trails and mountain hikes in and around Montagu. The healing waters of our magical hot springs have kept us famous for well over 150 years. Today you won't have to cross the river eight times in an ox-wagon to get through Cogman's Kloof to be able to experience them!

Guest accommodation is set out in the rear park-like indigenous and rose gardens with a proliferation of bird life centred on the pond. Secure parking is available off-street for ALL our guests and there is a sparkling pool to keep cool in summer. The suites are extremely spacious. Original art works adorn all the rooms, bedrooms average 36 square meters, bathrooms are spacious with most having twin sinks and separate toilets, shaver points etc.
Breakfast is served in the dedicated breakfast room or under the newly constructed vine shaded pergola in the courtyard. Breakfasts change daily, but consist of a combination of the following: artistically decorated fresh fruit salad, Oats a-la 7 Church Street, homemade granola with yogurt, scrambled eggs with salmon or bacon, eggs and all the trimmings. Alternatively a platter of cold meat and cheeses. Coffee, teas and toast with homemade marmalade and jams.
